When learning something new it can be easy to get distracted… Today I’m feeling very distracted. It’s been hard making myself do what needs to be done: chores, writing, off-ice, etc. I’ve had a stressful week and am very tired mentally, so it’s hard to focus on the task at hand. But that’s all the more reason to write this blog post. Focusing on what you’re doing is important and comes easier to some people than to others. That being said, it’s also something we can develop. You can practice focusing on what you’re doing at any given moment. Focusing, unless you have a specific learning disability targeting your brain, is something you can learn to do better. Just like in sports some are born with a better ability to perform but with consistency & discipline we can catch up.
As a population, we think of focusing so loosely. We don’t hold specific expectations for someone focusing. This is because, just like how people learn differently, people focus differently. There are all different kinds of techniques and strategies for focusing better, and some might work for you and some might not. That’s okay. Experiment and see what works for you!! Have fun with it and remember that it’s all about practicing. It’ll take work, but the results are worth it. So, even when you’re stressed and tired, sit down and practice focusing on the task at hand. Nothing else, don’t multitask it ruins your ability to solely focus on one thing in the future. It might take you longer, it took me twice as long to get anything done today, but just get it done well. What will you focus on today?
Thank you for sticking with me through this messy blog post. I hope you still found it valuable and enjoyable to read.
